Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a speaking event organizer. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, comments and an analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for nearly a decade. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are represented in popular culture. In her efforts to break down stereotypes related to women in popular culture, she has also been working to address issues relating to harassing women targeted by the media and others online. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being a well-known public speaker she has made speeches at the TEDxWomen The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality at a young age. In 2009, when she was still studying at university she started the Feminist Frequency website. In 2009, the ambitious young lady was harassed by the Internet for starting a web series on gender in videogames. The attack did have been a hindrance, rather it was a boost to her determination to be a feminist media critic. Numerous awards have been awarded to her for all the contributions that she made. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning media critic. She was also the founder and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores pop culture gender representations.
